One Touch - the disco/funk duo of Toronto producers Daniel Benjamin (Moon King) and Derek McKeon (ZONES, Ozone, Night Danger). Finding a common ground between the acid-fried elastic bounce of Derek’s trademark production and Daniel’s instinct for ethereal melody, the four tracks on One Touch’s debut display a multitude of dancefloor styles with poise and clarity.
Title track ‘Steppin' Out For More’ is a slice of tripped out funk, featuring Derek’s instrumental as a framework for Daniel’s Wham!-inspired vocal. The tune receives radically altered dancefloor remixes from each of the two producers: Night Danger’s street beat-inspired ‘Even More’ mix and a pulsing, Detroit-inflected four on the floor ‘DBW dub’.
Opening the record is a seven minute disco workout based on the classic Gary’s Gang track ‘Makin Music’. Halfway through, a new propulsive bassline breaks free, while roto-toms ping-pong around the stereo field, taking the listener into a spaced-out, stretched-out trip through dusty basement parties and hi-fi listening bars via the ears of two of Toronto’s most devious and devoted music producers, set deliriously loose at the controls.
